498.143 The Mystery of the Universe "Its Stars and Planets".
Scientific discoveries and tools have changed our knowledge of the universe over the years. With astronomers past and present, we have learned about the planet Earth, our Sun, and the planets that surround. This paper details the history of astrology, prominent astronomers, and the solar system. Early Greek astronomers knew many of the geometrical relationships of the heavenly bodies. Some, including Aristotle, thought Earth was a sphere. Eratosthenes, born in about 276 BC, demonstrated its circumference. Hipparchus, who lived around 140 BC, was a busy and talented astronomer. He classified stars according to brightness, estimated the size and distance of the moon, found a way to predict eclipses, and calculated the length of the year to within 6 1/2 minutes. As we can see, scientists and the advancements in technology have played a major and profound part in our knowledge today of the universe we live in. If it weren't for astronomers of past and present and their desire to learn just what is out there, we would have very little information about our world and beyond.

499.174 Data Smog: Surviving the Information Glut.
This is a book report on Data Smog: Surviving the Information Glut is a book about the pitfalls of the information age. The age of today, of tomorrow, of here on out. "Data smog" is the phrase used in the book to express excess technology and information use or consumption in the world we live in. Our world, the author contends, is filled with this smog and we need to find a way out of it. This book is easy to read and to manipulate. The information is backed up, not just by the author's opinion and personal experience, but also by proven fact; it has weight. The chapters are clearly outlined for the reader with the main agenda being, "symptoms of data smog," "how the smog affects our daily lives," and "how to cure ourselves of this smog created by information overload." (Shenk, 1998) The computers are doing great things, he says, but we aren't doing enough for ourselves anymore. And worst of all, we are losing the knowledge to even do it on our own.

500.271 Romanticism on the 'Net.
This paper discusses Romanticism on the Internet. The study of Romanticism has taken me on a voyage to the web. In my travels to find information for this class, I've come across many helpful sites that not only will be helpful in learning for this class, but in many others. Below is a list of what I've found a brief summary for each site and what you can expect to find there. I chose to focus mostly on romanticism in literature and the available sources online. It lists various places to research romanticism on the Internet.

501.279 Science Versus Astrology.
Some astrologers and sympathetic defenders claim that scientists are often engaging in astrological research under new labels. But to be astrological such research would have to involve birth charts, which is not the case. This paper researches the history of astrology, it's creed and systems of belief as it relates to science. The history of astrology is an important part of the history of the development of civilization; it goes back to the early days of the human race. The unchangeable, harmonious course of the heavenly bodies, the profound impression made on the soul of man by the power of such heavenly phenomena as eclipses, the feeling of dependence on the sun, the giver of daylight--all these probably suggested in the early ages of the human race, the question whether the fate of man was not dependent on these majestic manifestations of Divine power.

502.419 Science May not be the Answer.
This argument contends that science may not be the right approach to solving the problems of humanity. The writer's main argument is that science discounts spirituality and personal expression. Science and technology are touted as the future of mankind. Science will resolve the eternal questions of life, the purpose of existence, and the roots of man. Science will explain any complexity and ultimately resolve almost any unknown eliminating the need for spiritualism and the emotional uncertainty that has so long plagued the existence of humanity. However, as Lopez indicates, "the impersonality of statistics masks both the complexity and the ethic inherent in any...situation" (323), and science often falls very short of discovering the true nature of its subject under study.

503.468 Morality And Cloning.
In the following pages, I will argue that the practice of cloning is not only morally acceptable, but that we as a society have a moral responsibility to support cloning as a potential means of saving and extending human lives. Cloning is a scientific procedure, and yet debate over the practice usually takes place on the religious or ethical battlegrounds. It should not be quickly assumed, however, that these two groups fall on the "con" side of the cloning coin. Religious arguments are based largely on the traditions and scriptures that are unique to each faith.

504.15937 Domain Names and Intellectual Property Law.
This paper briefly examines the positive and the negative status of the law in respect to domain names. The status of intellectual property rights within technology is complex, but legislation is working to smooth out any inapplicable or ill-intentioned problems.
